Hi Tim & Team,

Thought I would be the first to comment on the high contrast mapping.

Have been using for planning and also 3 flights on Saturday and must say I find the maps brilliant, also the display in bright sunshine is far clearer.

I know you have said these will not be implemented in the next release but I am not looking forward to going back to the old ones so my preference would be to at least have these as an option to complement the existing choices.

Also on the last couple of flights for some reason I seem to be losing GPS lock the screen displays 14 in view 14 found but no aircraft symbol and cross in the virtual radar screen. The only way to restore is to reboot and start again. There used to be an option tick box to say require precise fix or similar which has been removed which I used to have ticked

Thanks

Dan

I haven't flown yet with the device in high contrast mode (but not for the lack of trying) but I used it in the car this morning. My personal view is that I think the green background is too dark, and I found that I needed to concentrate more when viewing it.  My son who is also a pilot, but coulour blind found it impossible. I will update this review whenever I get a chance to fly and use the device in high contrast mode and see if if my opinion changes when using it for real. Keep up the good work

Thanks, the more feedback we get about that chart style the better.

Dan, the situation where you're seeing lots of satellites but no fix is something we're trying to get on top of. We think we've solved it in the latest beta, can you let us know if you see it again please? If you do, please go into Settings -> GPS Setup -> Output and record as much of what you see there as you can.

I agree perhaps the green is a little dark it is more the airspace and clarity of lines which is an improvement and sunlight readability.

No discredit to the original mapping still the best GPS solution available in my opinion, high contrast will not be to everyones taste and would have to be an addition to the original rather than the new mapping style.

Will be interesting to see how others view the high contrast perhaps I just like dark colours.

Tim,

I will monitor the GPS signal and let you know Saturday was the first time I have flown for a while so cant confirm this is based on the latest beta release.

Hi Tim,

Compliments for high contrast screen! Surprised that you are not planning to use it in coming version. If it is an option, why not keep it for people who like it. I also tested it only in the car for time being, but so far it is my favorite color scheme. Though if you turn on "Show Terrain", then in mountain areas high altitude yellows and pinks start to conflict with neon colors of airspace and zones. If you keep colors like this, I would definitely turn off "Show Terrain" mode and use just green background. But I have proposal (I know it is easier to give proposals than to implement...) I think elevation coloring from dark green to yellow-green (not even yellow!) would give better picture in mountains.

By the way, sorry for technical incompetence, does high contrast mode saves battery life as it emits less light?

Hi Tim,

Another fan of the high-contrast scheme for in-plane use. I also agree that the "show terrain" option is best left off with this colour scheme - at certain zoom settings it can result in a faint "checkboard" appearing which is a little distracting. I also wonder if the magenta line of the desired track is a little too close in colour to the colour used for class-A airspace boundaries - the latter are drawn in a thinner line, but virtually the same colour.

Thanks once again for all your work on SkyDemon,

Mike.

The checkerboard pattern disappears after the device has rendered the terrain. On a slow device, this can take a minute or two, but it only has to do it once per zoom setting.

I used the high contrast scheme today and it was excellent. I hope it makes it into the next release.
